Physical Education (PE)
Pupils at Wessex enjoy fun, active lessons where they are taught to develop their personal, physical and social skills through a high-quality physical education curriculum. Teachers inspire pupils to succeed and excel in cooperative team games and competitive personal challenges. We provide opportunities for our pupils to become physically confident in a way that supports their health and fitness.
At Wessex, we foster a love of physical activity, competing in sporting events and festivals and supporting pupils to build resilience and help them embed our values of respect and positivity. In addition to curriculum lessons, pupils are encouraged to take part in active play through our trim trail, outdoor exercise equipment, basketball and football areas and Sports Leader led challenges at break and lunchtimes.
The national curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:
- Are physically active for sustained periods of time;
- Develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities;
- Engage in competitive sports and activities;
- Lead healthy, active lives.
