Computing
We understand the value that technology plays the day-to day life of our lives and as such, we aim to equip our children with the skills needed to cope in our rapidly changing world where work and leisure activities are increasingly transformed by technology.
Our Computing curriculum focuses on developing a progression of skills in the core areas of learning: digital literacy, computer science, information technology whilst also promoting digital citizenship. These strands are repeatedly revisited through each year group to ensure the learning is embedded and the skills are successfully developed, with a focus on it being delivered in a child friendly way. Through our curriculum, we intend for pupils not only to be digitally competent and have a range of transferable skills at a suitable level for the future workplace, but also to be responsible online citizens.
Through our teaching, learning tasks are designed to foster independence and to encourage curiosity and exploration, allowing students to ask questions, investigate and be creative in finding solutions using technology. There are also collaborative opportunities provided to foster teamwork, cooperation, and mutual respect among pupils, encouraging them to recognise and value each other's contributions.
Computing lessons do not always rely on direct use of the technology and can be taught through “unplugged” lessons. This gives our children the opportunity to apply what they have learnt in different contexts and to build on their prior learning.
