Music

At Wessex we aim to offer a high quality music education that engages and inspires all pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.

Children have the opportunity to perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians. Children learn to sing, to create and compose music on their own and with others and are able to use technology appropriately.

We have good links with our local music hub, Berkshire Music Trust. They deliver brass lessons for a term to pupils in Year 4, which is generously funded by our PTA. Children in Key Stage 2 (Years 3 – 6) have the opportunity to perform in two large concerts each year. During the Summer Term, they may rehearse and perform The Junior Music Festival at the Hexagon in Reading. During the Spring Term, they may also participate in Young Voices which is performed at The O2 in London.

Musical after school clubs on offer are Glee Club (singing, KS1 & 2) and recorder club (KS2).
